AMBASSADOR CULTURE

An ambassador culture starts with leadership

Ambassadorship begins with trust.

Employees recommend an organisation when they feel connected to it. When they are proud of their work, feel valued and trust their manager, they are more likely to talk about it with others.

Leaders influence this every day through the attention they give, their behaviour, recognition, the freedom they provide and the example they set.

That is why we do not see ambassadorship as a standalone recruitment issue. It starts with how the organisation operates day to day.

How does ambassadorship take shape?

Ambassadorship grows out of employees’ everyday experiences. An ambassador culture takes shape when people feel engaged, valued and proud and choose to share those experiences with others.

Leaders play an important role in this. Their behaviour directly affects trust, ownership, collaboration and the way employees talk about their work and organisation.

This also has an impact on recruitment. Through their personal and professional networks, employees can reach people who are often harder to engage through job vacancies and recruitment communications.

Building ambassadorship in four sessions

Across four practical sessions, we work with executive teams, senior management and line managers to develop behaviours that strengthen pride, trust and engagement.

Session 1 Awareness and reflection

How do employees experience day-to-day leadership? Where do they feel they have autonomy, trust and recognition? Where are the points of friction?

Outcome: insight into the behaviours and patterns that strengthen or limit ambassadorship.

Session 2

What truly motivates people?

What energises employees? When do people take initiative and responsibility? What role does leadership play?

Outcome: practical ways to strengthen engagement and ownership.

Session 3

Pride, culture and stories

What are employees proud of? Which experiences do they share without prompting? Which stories reveal what the organisation is like as an employer?

Outcome: insight into the experiences and stories employees are keen to share with others.

Session 4

Role modelling and clear agreements

What does this require of managers in practice? Which agreements help make the desired behaviour visible and recognisable?

Outcome: clear agreements and role modelling that make ambassadorship part of everyday leadership.

What does this achieve?

The impact of a stronger ambassador culture can be seen across leadership, employees and recruitment.

Recruitment

Greater awareness of their influence on trust, engagement and team behaviour, with practical tools to shape these through everyday leadership.

Greater freedom to take ownership, share positive experiences and express pride because they feel more recognised, involved and valued.

A stronger foundation for referral recruitment, as employees are more likely to talk about their work, share vacancies and recommend people from their networks.

The four sessions lay a foundation that HR and recruitment can build on. This enables referral recruitment to grow from what is already there: trust, pride, relationships and credible stories.

WHO WILL FACILITATE THE SESSIONS?

Maaike & Michael

Michael Boud and Maaike Willems facilitate the four sessions together. They combine their experience in recruitment and referral recruitment with expertise in employee experience, behaviour and how organisations inspire people to take action.

Michael focuses primarily on ambassadorship, referral recruitment and the power of existing relationships and networks. Maaike brings her experience in candidate experience, processes and programmes. This combination is particularly relevant to building an ambassador culture: employees’ experiences within the organisation largely determine what they say about their employer outside it.

During the sessions, we make this practical. Together with executives, managers and team leaders, we explore what happens within the organisation, where trust and pride develop and which behaviours encourage employees to speak positively about their work of their own accord.
